And so your investigation begins!

Welcome to the connecting car!

From the start, you have access to two rooms: the main room and the bathroom. Before exploring around, talk to Ethan and Ikuro.

Ethan will point you in the direction of the bathroom. That's this door right here! Head inside.

Once inside the bathroom, interacting with the sink allows you to pick up the [RED KEY].

With the key equipped, Ethan and Ikuro have some new things to say. Chat with them before continuing.

Once you're done chatting, equip the [RED KEY] and open the red box inside the bathroom.

With the box now open, more of the room is available to you. Before you can explore it however, a mandatory chat with Ethan pops up. Click his icon from the party menu to talk to him.

Once you're done talking, you now have a few more doors you can open. Re-equip your L-Gear and interact with this door first.

Once inside, interact with these papers to acquire {BOOKMARK FRONT} and {BOOKMARK BACK}. Head back outside.

With either one of these equipped, you can have a new interaction with Ethan and Ikuro. Talk to them both before continuing.

Next, with your L-Gear equipped, enter the door on the right.

Inside the closet, there is a wicker basket. Interact with it to get the [ENNEAGRAM BOOK].

Next, with the [ENNEAGRAM BOOK] equipped, talk to Ethan.

Once you've finished that conversation, re-equip your L-Gear and interact with this door.

There is an odd box resting in here. There's only one thing to do in a situation like this... Touch it! Watch the cutscene that happens when you do.

Hit CHECK to see if the password is 4444. After your epic failure, you're done with this box for now.

Once you have interacted with that box, as well as found the [Bookmark FRONT], [BOOKMARK BACK], and [ENNEAGRAM BOOK], new dialogue opens up with Ethan and Ikuro again.

Speak with Ethan to acquire [ETHAN'S L-GEAR] and speak to Ikuro to get [IKURO'S L-GEAR].

With some new numbers to try, attempt to solve the box again.

Once you fail again, Dan realizes that he's missing something.

Go see what you can learn from Jude!

Now that you have all four L-Gears, it's time to try that box again!

Have you figured out the combination to open it yet?

Let's review all of the information we have.

Still haven't figured it out?

Using the bookmarks as a guide, you can assign a number to each title. for instance, 'The Helper' is 'their heart,' and the heart is marked as 2 on the bookmark. Following that same logic, you can figure out the rest.

So the correct order for the box would be 3 7 4 5.

Well done! With the box open, you can now interact with the gold authenticator underneath to watch a cutscene.

With that done, you can now open this door.

As soon as you do, you'll escape the connecting car and complete your investigation!

I didn't realize the bookmark had an actual use beyond them talking about it. Did it an unintended way, sorta stumbling into the same answer though, I just tried to match people to descriptions from the Enneagram and got different numbers for them even but still solved it anyway lol

I think you should make it so that if someone can't figure out the puzzle, their computer explodes, killing them instantly

Huh, I honestly didn't quite get how the book was important and just tried numbers from bottom to the top according to bookmark. Happened to be correct.

Hopefully this guide was helpful if you got stuck!
And if you opened this without giving it a try all by yourself first...
I'm onto you!
